Attitude they say is everything and this saying has been rooted deep down inside of me because attitude takes one hundred percent of life living. It is undeniable that this has gotten a profound standard in knowing and deciding the kind of life one has to live.
In his book, 'Attitude is Everything', Keith Harrel shared one of his encounters on the power of attitude at a basketball match where he has already occupied a seat not until someone came and demanded for the seat because that very seat bears the same number on their ticket. The other guy was shouting at the top of his voice but Keith would not do the same having understood that Attitude is Everything.
He said that he could have actually shouted back and the officials would have sent them both out of the match but he did an extraordinary thing by demanding for the guy's ticket so as to compare it with his and fortunately, he was where he needed to be. Although, the ticket bears the same number but the other guy's was located on the opposite wing !
Now imagine he had shouted back and they were sent out, he would not have grabbed his popcorn to enjoy the match and the other guy would not have enjoyed the match either. This encounter made me to actually understand that Attitude is Everything.
It is very necessary to understand the power of attitude because it determines the rate of our individualistic significance in the world. Basically, how you relate with life determines what you get from it and this is all rooted down to attitude.
I want to share with you the first category of attitude you need to maintain positiveness on if you want to be a champion.
•ATTITUDE ON PEOPLE
I once listened to a sermon by Rev. Sam Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Centre, Lagos, Nigeria on the teaching of Jesus Christ on the mount. He made me understood what Jesus actually meant when he said "whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other" (Matthew 5:39b. KJV). This is typically hard for you and I to do but according to the preacher, he made it known that anyone who decides to slap you or get on your nerves is basically tampering your emotions and actually want to take away your joy and it will take a man of positive attitude not to slap the fellow back.
In life, people will show you what hell looks like by the way they relate with you, talk to you and treat you. Sometimes, you will find it hard to even experience joy and peace through your relationships. People around you can decide to get bitter on you.
As a student, you will experience this by the way your lecturers always frustrate you. As a working class fellow, relating with your boss and colleagues can go wrong by the way you are being treated. As a child in the house, parents will get on your nerves every time so do your siblings. As a married man or woman, your spouse can be intimidating. As a single guy or lady that is engaged, your partner may decide not to give you a break or rest. All of these things are the things we experience often and things keep getting worse and always escalating.
The truth of the matter is, people can be very frustrating irrespective of who they are but the real truth you have to understand is 'it is what it is' and this is sumed up in my favorite quote on attitude which asserts that "things you cannot change, you accept." As a student, it is hard to control your lecturers but all you need to do is to accept that fact, have the attitude of a champion and move on with life.
Irrespective of what you might be going through with people- parents, partner, boss, colleagues, relatives, mates, drivers, conductors, gossipers, motorcyclists, among other personalities you can think of, all you need to do is to have the attitude of a champion. Do not retaliate. This is not because you are weak, it is because you are stronger than they are. This is about you and not them. We are talking about your joy and peace. It is not about them but it is all about you. Choose to live like a champion and experience joy on every side.
Stay tuned for the concluding part soon. I hope you find this piece useful. If yes, do not forget to share as you might save a dying soul on attitude. Thanks
