Good day readers. Trust you are having a great day. Today is our health talk day and we will be discussing on issues relating to our health. As the saying goes, health
is wealth, therefore we must do all what we can to improve our health. Today, we want to talk about 'Diet'. I want you guys to follow through and ask many questions as possible relating to health in the comment box. I assure you that all will be answered to your best satisfaction.

WHAT IS DIET?


According to Oxford dictionary
Diet is the kind of food that a person, animal or community habitually eats. Diet is also a special course of food to which one restricts oneself, either to LOSE WEIGHT or for MEDICAL REASONS

IMPORTANCE OF DIET


A good diet can help your body:

1. Cope with treatment side effects

2. Handle the most beneficial dose of certain Treatment

3. Recover and heal fast

4. Fight off infections

5. Feel stronger,healthier and have more energy

6. Helps you lose weight in healthy way

7. Prevents/Treat DIABETES

8. Improves HEART HEALTH

9. Helps fight CANCER

10. Helps you DE-STRESS AND RELAX

NOTE: DIET MIGHT HELP YOU LIVE LONGER

WAYS TO BALANCE YOUR DIET


1. AVOID EATING SATURATED FATS

Eating too much of  saturated fats like MEAT, THE SKIN ON CHICKEN and some junks foods can result in weight gain,it can also cause increas in the levels of bad CHOLESTEROL in your blood. But when you lower the intake of these FATS, you are not only losing weight, you are also lowering your CARDIOVASCULAR RISK AND HIGH BLOOD CHOLESTEROL. Moderate intake of foods containing healthy MONO-UNSATURATED OR POLY-UNSATURATED FATS is important for a balanced diet. Examples of mono-saturated and Poly-unsaturated fats are NUTS, SEEDS, FATTY FISH, AVOCADO, OLIVES, OLIVE OIL AND CANOLA OIL.

2. Eating more PREBIOTICS AND PROBIOTICS. 

Prebiotics and probiotics are found in foods which are highly NUTRITIOUS while being low in CALORIES. Example of probiotic is YOGHURT. Examples of prebiotic are ONIONS, LEEKS, GARLIC, BANANAS AND WHOLE GRAINS. Foods that are rich in pre & probiotics may improve GASTROINTESTINAL health, digestion and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as BLOATING AND CONSTIPATION.

3. INCREASE YOUR FIBRE INTAKE

4. Eating low GI(GLYCEMIC INDEX) foods. E.g Unprocessed OATS,Lentils,Beans,Legumes,Basmati Rice.

5. TAKING LOW FAT DAIRY PRODUCTS such as:
Split Peas
Lentils
Black Beans
Lima Beans
Artichokes
Peas
Broccoli
Brussels Sprouts.
