Yesterday, I logged in to YouTube to see if I could watch some new videos of inspiring people and I stumbled on a video where Oprah Winfrey was sharing about
the 'Power of Belief'. In the video, she shared one of her experiences while in South Africa. She met with Nelson Mandela and in one of their conversations, Nelson Mandela said Education can put an end to poverty. This statement struck my heart and I thought of it. The result is what you want to read today.
Education in my own perspective simply means getting knowledge. Most people have misunderstood what education is all about and this have caused a breakdown in the basic meaning. There are many statistics to prove that education compared to how it was before has changed. In Nigeria, we now have more people who are willing to get educated even more than the available space in our institutions. This is a good improvement and we must appreciate it.
Nonetheless, we should understand that poverty is a deadly disease that kills faster than any health disease. We know of some parts of the world that life is hard for them. Food becomes gold and even to live life filled with pleasure becomes a taboo. I want to opine and follow what Nelson Mandela said, Education can put an end to poverty! Are you reading this right now, I want to tell you that never give up on education. Be a long life learner. Our world only give attention to people who are educated in their craft. The way I'll approach a tailor with just a roadside certificate will differ from that fellow with a tailoring diploma recognized by a school. Sometimes it is not about the money but the prestige. I want to encourage you never to give up on education because that is your safety net out of poverty.
